Cardiology

Dr. L. van Lochem

Dr. Laura van Lochem trained in the Netherlands as a cardiologist, specializing in hereditary (familial) heart diseases. With 9 years of experience, Dr. Van Lochem has been in Spain for several years.

To stay abreast of the latest new techniques and treatments and to comply with European guidelines for cardiologists, Dr. Van Lochem continuously trains.

As a cardiologist, she believes it is important to have good and open contact with her patients. The patient is central and time is made for the patient to tell his story. It is very important for the cardiologist to have insight into the patient’s medical background, so that a correct diagnosis can be made, linked to the correct treatment. Dr. Van Lochem explains the condition and treatment in understandable language. If you wish, she will also inform your treating doctor in the Netherlands.

When should a cardiology consultation occur?

If you do a lot of sports, such as cycling, it is advisable to have your heart checked on a regular basis. Even if you are facing heavy physical exertion, it is advisable to visit the cardiologist.

If you are 65+, it is in any case advisable to have a mini-check done.  This includes: a blood analysis, an ECG and a physical examination.  A mini-check is good to be aware of your general health and can prevent problems.

If many people in your family are confronted with cardiovascular disease or if there are sudden deaths at a relatively young age, it is also best to make an appointment with the cardiologist.

It is important that you listen carefully to your body. If you suffer from palpitations, chest pain or shortness of breath, do not continue walking, get examined!  The first manifestation of heart problems is often a cerebral infarction, which can be prevented by a regular check-up!
