Electrocardiogram (ECG)
An ECG provides information about the condition and function of your heart. During the examination, the electrical currents emitted by the heart itself are measured. This gives your doctor information about your heart rhythm and the supply of oxygen to the heart muscle, among other things. An electrocardiogram is also known as a heart film.
Important
To evaluate the ECG, it is important to know whether you have any complaints and what medicines you are taking. The doctor’s assistant performing the ECG will ask you about this. If you are on medication, please bring it with you!
The study
Before the examination, you will be asked to bare your upper body and take off any jewellery worn around your wrists. If you are wearing tights, you will also be asked to remove them. You can keep your socks and shoes on.
You will lie down on the examination table. Electrodes will then be stuck to your chest, wrists and ankles. It is important that you try to relax during the ECG and do not move or talk. This takes about 30 seconds. You will not feel anything from this.
After this, the doctor’s assistant will remove the electrodes and you can get dressed.
Duration of the study
5 minutes
Results of the study
The results of the examination will be sent within 24 hours to the doctor who requested the examination. Your (primary) physician will inform you further.
